Heritage Fruit

The orchards

Planted for the long view

Two orchards of traditional West Country fruit, set in meadow grass and grazed by sheep.

We are planting heritage varieties of apple, pear, plum and damson, chosen for flavour, for cooking and for pressing. The trees are grown on vigorous rootstocks so they will become the large, open orchard trees of the old Dorset farmsteads.

From blossom to bottle

Spring brings blossom and the bees. In autumn the fruit is picked by hand for eating, juicing and cyder, with windfalls going to the animals.

Blossom, fruit
and pressing

Winter pruning, spring blossom, summer thinning and the autumn harvest set the rhythm of the orchard year.

Our first juices and preserves will follow as the young trees come into fruit.
