The Land

About the estate

Level, unspoilt farmland in the heart of the Blackmore Vale

Zinc Estate lies in the Blackmore Vale in North Dorset, surrounded by farmland with long views to the hills on every side.

The land runs to twelve and a half acres: three meadows, two orchards, a kitchen garden and a network of mature hedges and native trees. At its centre stands the barn, built in 2022 in zinc, cedar and local Marnhull stone.

How we farm

Zinc Estate is run as a small, mixed agricultural and horticultural business. Grazing animals, fruit, vegetables and flowers each have their place, and each supports the others: animals graze the orchards and meadows, the garden is fed with compost from the estate, and hedges and woodland give shelter to wildlife.

Looking ahead

Over the coming seasons we are planting new native hedging and trees, improving drainage on the heavy clay fields, digging a wildlife pond and putting in ground-mounted solar to power the estate.
